On 4-5 September, 2024, several NORFAS scholars participated in an international workshop on then use of uniforms and accessories by political movements held at Malmö University, Sweden. The workshop, which was organised by professor Johan A. Lundin and postdoc Charlie Krautwald and financed by the Swedish foundation Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, had participants from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, England, and Scotland.
NORFAS scholar Celestine Kunkeler (C-REX, University of Oslo) presented a paper on “Masculinity and Performativity of the Fascist Uniform in Interwar Europe” while Charlie Krautwald (University of Copenhagen) presented his and Lundin’s work on the negotiation of uniforms in the political culture of 1930s Denmark and Sweden through bans, circumvention and legal action. NORFAS organiser Oula Silvennoinen presented a paper on Interwar Far Right political uniforms and their herritage and usage in present-day Finland.
